Nearly a month ago we went to Equine Affaire in Columbus, Ohio. We attended with family and met up with friends for a very long, wet, day of horses, demonstrations and of course, Pfizer Fantasia. It was our first time seeing the show as we were unable to get tickets last year… we almost didn’t get tickets this year!
Last year I had dragged my huge camera and bag around the entire event and the next day I threw out my back. Related? I think perhaps.
Having learned my lesson, I took my Peter Parker/ Jimmy Olsen lens (50mm prime) on my D300s with my new BlackRapid Strap (love!). I consider the combination my Point n Shoot and it’s the lens I use when going to parties, weddings and the like when I want to still have my camera, work in low light, and walk away with a few snapshots. It made shooting the entire event a challenge, which I enjoyed. However, a 50mm lens in the nosebleed section of arena seating was, well, interesting.
If you’ve noticed of late, I’m in a black and white phase and am really enjoying playing with the depth and contrast you can pull out of black and white images. A hint of color and it changes it even more. Enough talk – on to the photos. Below are a few of my favorite images from the day:
