Patricia D. Ryan

To be honest, I don’t know how I got into photography; I’ve just always been taking pictures. I was always the one directing photo shoots at family events, with our little point and shoots and disposable cameras. This still holds true, I just have fancier equipment: Nikon DSLR, lenses and strobes.

I have been formally taking photos since 2002 and professionally since 2008, when elzora.com photography was founded. If you’re looking for where I graduated from photography school, you won’t find that information here: I have no formal education in photography and am quite proud of this fact. I prefer to learn my craft by asking, trying and failing.

My photography style stems from wanting to blow away my clients. I don’t know how else to put it. During a session, I get what’s expected, but I love getting the extra angles, close ups and candid moments. I’m always thinking: how can I make this shot the best I’ve ever taken? How can I bring out more of my subject’s personality?

When it comes to family portraits, I prefer a location where my subject is comfortable, such as a local park or their home. I have a permit to photograph at many of the FiveRivers MetroParks and find that they are a beautiful backdrop and provide props on their own: flowers, trees, benches, butterflies and archways.
